Caitlin Murphy and Gregor Dodson married in September 2005. They have one cat. In July 2007 they vacated their apartment in San Francisco, sold half their stuff at a garage sale, stored the other half in California and shipped the rest to Edinburgh (they had a lot of stuff.) They strapped what was left to their backs and set off for Southeast Asia. The cat went to live with Aunt Randy and Uncle Kim.
Their trip takes them to the beach in Thailand, where they finish their Scuba certification. From there they travel to Northern Thailand, and enjoy Chiang Mai. Then it’s over the border to Laos for a two day boat trip down the Mekong river to Luang Prabang. After 2 weeks in Laos they fly to Hanoi in North Vietnam, spend a couple of days in Ha Long Bay, and then head south to the central Vietnam town of Hoi An. From Hoi An it’s off to Saigon and the Mekong delta, followed by another week at the beach on Phu Quoc island. Then on to Siem Reap in Cambodia to see the Angkor Wat ruins. From there they fly to Adelaide to attend the weddings of two brothers, friends of Gregor’s from childhood. After 2 weeks in Adelaide it’s off to Malaysia and then finally Singapore from where they will fly to Scotland, where they’ll be starting a new life as tam-o-shantered Scottish yuppies. Their cat will be taking the direct route, and will join them in Scotland, where her tam-o-shanter will be waiting.
They have been taking their malaria pills and making sure no-one slips drugs into their backpacks.
