The ‘anchor’ of our trip to SE Asia was a couple of weeks in Adelaide to attend the weddings of Jamie and Gavin, two brothers that are friends of mine from when we were very young. We connected through Kuala Lumpur airport on budget airline AirAsia and headed down to Adelaide on Air Malaysia.
Both of the weddings were fantastic, and very different from each other. Gav and Kate’s was a country club affair, with many of their friends who live in Adelaide and beyond. Kate is from Adelaide though she met Gavin in Edinburgh and lived there for 6 years before they moved down under. Kate’s family threw their doors open to us visitors in a fantastic show of Oz hospitality.
Jamie’s bride, Junko, is from Japan. They also met in Edinburgh. Junko’s family attended from Japan, and many of Junko’s friends were also there. There were kilts and kimonos at the wedding which made for quite a spectacle. Their ceremony was in the botanical gardens, with the reception in the wine center next door. It was a very stylish affair and they pulled it off brilliantly.
The highlight of our time in Adelaide, other than the two weddings and all the wineries, was a visit to Cleland Wildlife Park where Caitlin got to cuddle a Koala named Dot. See the pics!
