Krabi Town
Posted on July 16, 2007
From Phi Phi we took the ferry to Krabi, and from there a Songetheaw in to Krabi Town. We stayed at the Chan Cha Lay guest house. The room was fantastic, aqua blue throughout, and with an outdoor bathroom and shower (in a cool way!)
The ferry was smaller, but faster, than the one we took from Phuket to Phi Phi. There were more locals on board, so it felt a little less like the eurostar and more like SE Asia. It was a pretty funky boat, definitely been plowing the seas for many years. The sea was calm, much more pleasant than the last journey.
The Krabi ferry terminal is nice and modern, and set up to handle international arrivals and departures (so more like an airport than a ferry terminal.) I assume these international routes are in to Malaysia, and maybe Singapore and Indonesia.
Krabi town is cute, much less dense than Phuket, and lacking the Sino-Portugese architecture. It was a Sunday, so the town was fairly quiet. We had a little walk around, and even went in to the mall. Caitlin bought a donut for 10B (40c) that was filled with neon green filling, perhaps pistachio flavored. CM: It was delicious. I don’t know why Thai donuts are not a widely known delicacy along with Pad Thai and Thai tea. The Thais have mastered the art of the fluffy, tender, light-as-a-feather pastry and the creamy, sweet but not too sweet filling. Between the donuts, the noodles, and the drinks involving condensed milk, I will end up weighing 300 pounds if we spend much longer in this country…
