Over to Laos
Posted on July 20, 2007
We came up to Chiang Khong today on the bus from Chiang Mai. It took over 6 hours, and we were in the back seat most of the way, right by the toilet and in the bumpiest part of the bus. It was pretty cramped, even though it was 1st class (I’m having trouble imagining 2nd and 3rd.)
It’s a pretty small place heading over to Laos tomorrow (Saturday.) It’s a pretty small place, but we found an internet cafe, and tonight we will eat the best mexican food in Thailand, according to the guidebook.
Tomorrow we take a ferry boat over the Mekong to Houayxai, in Laos, and form there a slow boat down the Mekong to Luang Prabang. We’ll have plenty time to kill, but no power source, so might be able to get the rest of the photos from Chiang Mai processed on battery power. We spent the day yesterday looking at Wats (buddhist temples) and at the craft market.
We’ll be out of touch for a couple of days, but should be back online on Sunday when we get to Luang Prabang.
Tchuss!

Watch out for the rebels in Laos. They can give a whole new meaning to ‘time to kill’.
Also, John says that your media import code sucks. (what’s with hardcoding transcode-stage in the queue object? huh?)
